Bentonville, AR – If you spotted heavy smoke in Bentonville Wednesday afternoon, you weren’t alone. That’s because firefighters were doing a little hands on training.
Several crews were on hand at home on Central Avenue and Battlefield for the training.
That home was donated to the department specifically for learning.
Fire officials say they have been training all week long at the home with everything from small fires to the big ones.
They say being able to teach new firefighters the ropes and getting a chance to brush up on skills is invaluable.
Clark Wilkerson, the Bentonville Fire Department Division Chief Training Officer said, “This is a proving ground for some of them, but a training ground for us to be sure of all of their skills. We don’t want to learn it or have them learn it in the middle of an emergency situation. So that’s why this benefits our department tremendously.”
Firefighters say through this training they’re able to teach new firefighters different techniques, while veterans hone their skills.
