ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA) — The start of a new school year is a milestone in the lives of both children and their parents. For some families, this means kindergarten registration.
Parents can enroll their kindergartner for the 2020-2021 school district on Wednesday (February 19) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Kids turning five on or before August 1, 2020 are eligible.
Communications director for the Rogers Public School District, Ashley Siwiec said parents can fill out enrollment forms before they come to save time. But if they don’t, there will be a station to do it at the school.
Parents will also want to bring the necessary documents, including birth certificates, proof of address, and immunization records.
Siwiec also suggested bringing the future student so they can take a readiness test.
“They just do a quick little minute or two with the student to see where they’re at with learning their numbers, letters, writing their name,” Siwiec said.
Mary Claire Farnan is a kindergarten teacher at Northside Elementary in Rogers. She said she understands kids may be nervous for this milestone, but parents should know they’re in good hands.
“It’s a lot to take in,” Farnan said. “But we’re really nice and just want to have fun and talk with you, learn more about you so that we can get excited for next year when you are in kindergarten.”
Registration will be ongoing over the next few months, but Siwiec said it’s best to do it early if possible. That way, the district can better prepare in several ways, including hiring more teachers if necessary.
