Lavaca Residents Awaken to ‘Lake’ In Their Yard

LAVACA, AR– Residents in the small town of Lavaca, got a rude awakening Wednesday morning

“It was just kind of like sheer chaos,” said Lavaca resident Joseph Patrick.

2:30 A.M. Wednesday Morning, Joseph Patrick woke up to find water rushing onto his property.

“I noticed our cul de sac was just completely under water like I’ve never seen it any time before,” said Patrick.

As water fell overnight, this creek behind the Patrick’s house quickly filled up, sending water rushing into their yard and into their home.

“It was like a lake,” said Patrick.

Their slumber quickly turning to panic, as they realized the flood waters were soaking into their home.

“I turned the light on and went out and looked and that’s when I saw the different color on the carpet and it was on the tile at our side door. I knew then that we had to move pretty quick,” said Patrick.

The water was not the only unwelcome addition to the house.

“She’s like Joe, Joe, there’s a snake,” said Blaine Patrick, of his mom finding a snake and later a frog. “My dad’s like what? There’s a snake, come get this snake!”

While the creek has flooded before, it’s never happened like this.

“The water’s gotten pretty high. It’s ran over the driveway before, but nothing like this. No idea why this time,” said Blaine.

The family says luckily the water receded as quickly as it came.

“I guess it was just the grace of God that it just went down,” said Patrick.
