UPDATE: Springdale policeman identified after officer-involved shooting in May


UPDATE: The Springdale Police Department has identified the officer who was involved in the officer-involved shooting on Thursday, May 28.

Officer Edgar Hernandez is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Officer Hernandez has been with the department since March 2013.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A woman has been shot in an officer-involved shooting in Springdale Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Jeff Taylor with Springdale Police said a call came in just after 5:00 p.m. for a shooting near Huntsville Ave. and Laura Street about one block to the east of the Jones Center.

When officers arrived at the scene they found 30-year-old Sina Doctor, an African American woman, armed with a shotgun threatening to shoot neighbors, Taylor said.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and the first officer that arrived fired the shot hitting Doctor.

Taylor said Doctor was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Taylor could not say if the woman suffered any mental issues.

The officer was not hurt during the shooting and officer’s name is not being released at this time.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is being called into investigate the shooting.

Springdale Police will conduct its own investigation to ensure the officer followed the law and protocols of the department.

Per protocol, the officer will be placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Officer will still canvas the area and continue talking to witnesses.
