Happy Friday!!! Easter Weekend is here and so are new releases in the box office.
First up, a movie based on a true story of a Missouri teenager’s recovery after nearly drowning in a frozen lake. “Breakthrough” stars “This Is Us” breakout star Chrissy Metz. The film serves as a reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle. “Breakthrough” is rated PG.
Linda Cardellini checks Craig’s List for an exorcist in “The Curse of La Llorona.” The “Green Book” actress plays a social worker dealing with an abusive mother, but that mother happens to be a ghost who drowned her own children. And now she’s desperate to replace her brood by snatching kids from the living world. “The Curse of La Llorona” is rated R. You can also experience this movie in IMAX.
Acting and singing are two different skill sets for performers, but Elle Fanning did both in her latest movie. In “Teen Spirit”, Fannning plays a shy teenager who enters a televised singing competition and forms an unlikely mentorship with a former opera singer. “Teen Spirit” is rated PG-13.
Formal attire is required in “Penguins.” This DisneyNature documentary follows a penguin they call “Steve” on his perilous journey across the Antarctic landscape to find fish, love, and family. “Penguins” is rated G.
