Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” doing whatever it takes to keep the number spot at the box office. ‘Endgame’ brought in $145 million in the U.S, for its second weekend of release. After less than two weeks in theaters, there’s only one movie ahead of “Avengers: Endgame” on the global box office list.
The blockbuster has worldwide ticket sales of $2.2 billion passing Ttitanic” and a lot of other movies — for second place all-time. It’s still about $600 million behind the all-time champ, “Avatar.”
Here’s another big story coming out of the weekend, a stunning outcome at the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby have some calling foul. “Country House” was named the newest Kentucky Derby champion only after the horse that finished first was disqualified. Pre-race favorite “Maximum Security” was the first horse to cross the finish line. But stewards were called to review footage. They determined maximum security had committed a foul by moving out of his lane, effectively cutting off another horse.
It was the first time a derby winner was disqualified by a stewards’ ruling. “Country House” was a 65-to-1 longshot to win the derby.
