DECATUR, AR– About 2,500 Empire District Electric customers were without power for over an hour Thursday night. Mike Jones with Empire said a substation equipment failure led to a transformer catching fire. All of Gentry as well as the southern part of Decatur lost power. Crews were able to restore power by re-routing to another substation. Jones said they are in the process of bringing in a replacement unit for the Decatur substation. They are still working to determine what caused the fire.
