‘Ales for Trails’ Seeks to Improve City

The beer was flowing on the Riverfront in Fort Smith over the weekend for the third annual ‘Ales for Trails’ concert.

It’s a yearly event which brings in over 400 types of beer for a fundraiser that goes directly to the trail system in the River Valley.

For Marketing Director Kathleen Hanna it’s a way for young people in fort smith to directly contribute and build the city they dream of living in.

Hanna said proceeds for the event are going towards building trails that completely circle the city of fort smith and some other venues for bikers as well.

“We’re also looking to bring other options in such as mountain bike trails and an skate park and other things like that,” Hanna said.

“Last year we were able to raise around 42 thousand for the trails and were hoping to bring in at least that much this year.”

Although the exact dollar amount has not yet been counted, Hanna said the event saw nearly twice as many people go through it’s gates than last year.
