Arkansans Traveling Across the World for Kenyan Kids

A local boutique is working to change the lives of those here in Northwest Arkansas and across the world.

You’ve probably passed by Beautiful Lives Boutique not knowing what’ behind the doors.

Melody Taylor is the owner of Beautiful Lives Boutique. She said,  “Our aim is to help women that are in need in our own community who need clothes.”

But their reach goes farther than just here in Northwest Arkansas.

Taylor said, “We’re excited that from Northwest Arkansas, from this shop, we’re able to mobilize people along with resources to get on a plane and travel back to Nirobi Kenya.”

When you buy clothes at Beautiful Lives Boutique, the money made from those purchases helps put books in the hands of children in Kenya.”

“They went and they purchased children’s books from the library sale that we are able to put in our suitcases and distribute into the libraries that we’re starting,” said Taylor.

Through a program called “Go Near,” Taylor and 28 other Northwest Arkansans are each taking a hundred pounds of luggage to Kenya.

Their bags will be filled with  books to start libraries and supplies the children  need just to get by.

Carley Brown is one of those 28 volunteers. She said,  “Overseas you can just see more of people and just their hearts.”

Taylor said they’re working to break the cycle of poverty and trying to start a cycle of kindness and compassion instead.  “They’re encouraged and supported to go do something for others and when they do that it’s just life changing for them and then they come back and we encourage them to volunteer in their own community. “

The volunteers who go say it helps put life into perspective.

Mayse Pippin will also be going to Kenya with Go Near. She said, “Here we have all the supplies that we need and we have easy access to that and people in different countries don’t necessarily have that.”

The volunteers are heading to Kenya next week. If you want to help donate supplies head to their website –> or stop by and drop off donations at 1108 N College Ave, Fayetteville, AR 72703. They still need children and educational books, pencils, sharpeners, pens and more.
