A Conway teacher was awarded Arkansas’ Substitute Teacher of the Year.
George or “Mr. Ron” Yarbrough has been a substitute teacher at Conway schools for more than 13 years.
He says students will have a substitute to the equivalent of one year and that’s why he believes what he does is important.
“Get them in a good mood and get them on my side, tell them a silly joke or two, tell them I can get them a magic pencil and turn them into frogs, which I can,” Yarbrough says.
“Whenever I’m sad in the mornings and I see him, I get super-duper happy,” 4th grader Avrin says.
“He’s kind of part of my family,” kindergartner Luci says.
Mr. Ron says he plans on substituting as long as he can.
