Two barges broke loose on the Arkansas River in Oklahoma early on May 23, according to Muskogee County officials, resulting in a partial closure of Interstate 40 by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

I-40/State Highway 100 at Webbers Falls is closed, according to OHP.

Drivers can expect significant delays and should avoid the area and seek an alternate route if possible.

Eastbound I-40 traffic may use southbound SH-2 to SH-9 to US-59 and westbound traffic is diverted to southbound US-59 to westbound SH-9 to northbound SH-2.

As of 12 p.m., the barges continue to head downstream and have hit Webbers Falls lock and dam along the river.
