If you don’t have a place to be with air condition right now, you can check out Salvation Army’s Cooling Centers.
On days when the heat index is 95 degrees or more, the cooling centers open until 4 p.m.. There are two in northwest Arkansas: 15th Street in Fayetteville and SW I Street in Bentonville.
The Salvation Army’s Lt. Nic Arroqui said on top of keeping people alive, the centers also lift moods.
“Everybody tells me how how it is outside, and it’s like, I know it! I know it!,” Lt. Arroqui said. “I’ve been out there. It’s really hot, you know? And just how big of a change a bottle of water or a snack can be to people’s day. It gives us a time to share and talk to each other and meet new people in the community, and it’s just positive all the way around.”
The Salvation Army also offers box fans to families for free! Donations for fans and water are currently being accepted.
