Bella Vista POA to Save Millions Extinguishing Stump Dump

FOX24

Those in Bella Vista may soon see an end to the Trafalgar Road Fire.

The underground fire could be out in June. By the Bella Vista Property Owner’s Association taking over, it will save millions of dollars.

The POA and the Arkansas Department Of Environmental Quality have agreed the group will be in charge of putting out the stump dump fire.

Chief Executive Officer of the POA, Tom Judson says many residents have misconceptions about the process.

The most asked question is why the property owners didn’t step in once the state got the green light to use $20 million of appropriated funds.

Judson says they’ve stepped in now because they found a quicker and cheaper way of exhausting the fire.

“What they don’t recognize is that any money that ADEQ expends, has to be reimbursed. So that $20 million is not free money. If we’re going to pay more now, or less later. We chose to go with the less now. Plus we know we can bring quicker relief to our residents,” says Judson.

The POA has until the end of the week to present their final plan to the ADEQ. Once those plans are finalized, the fire should be completely put out in the next 30 days.
