Bentonville Assisted Living Facility Shut Down by Department of Human Services

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KFTA)– A local assisted-living center is no longer running after it’s license was revoked for putting an immediate threat on the health and safety of its residents.

The owner, 71-year-old Angel Floro, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault against two women living there, but these aren’t the only incidents leading to the doors being locked.

Better Home Living is now locked up and empty after the Department of Human Services shut it down for putting its residents in jeopardy.
It’s a string of incidents that DHS says could have resulted in serious harm, injury or even death.
In July of last year, the facility was given a provisional license for failing to have an licensed administrator employed and consistently on the property.
In October, it was given a permanent license.
From December to March 25, Better Home Living failed to complete a number of practices, including ensuring medications were properly administered.
This resulted in a medication error rate of over seven percent.
In December of last year, they failed to ensure criminal record and Adult Abuse Registry checks were conducted for four out of five employees.
The letter sent to the facility from DHS also outlines issues like inadequate staffing, training, and performance.
The facility was notified March 23 of those findings, then was given 72 hours to create a plan to fix them.
After failing to do so, the facility’s license was terminated and it was forced to find alternative living for all of it’s residents.
Marci Manley from DHS said all residents have been transferred to other facilities at this time with the help of the facility and the state.
The Better Home Living facility can re-apply for a license, but under DHS rules, it must demonstrate it’s ability to both aquire and maintain adequate staffing to meet residents’ needs as well as all minimum license requirements.
