Lights, camera, action! Police recruits received first hand experience on dealing with the media.
Police officers and recruits from various departments across Northwest Arkansas were in class today to learn how to communicate with the media better.
Sgt. Gene Page with the Bentonville Police Department led the training that involved recruits doing mock interviews with FOX24’s Kelly O’Neill.
Officer Raleigh Conwell with the Fayetteville Police Department said it’s all about building relationships.
“Actually connecting with the medial, using you guys as a source as much as you guys use us as a source,” Conwell said.
Dealing with the media is only one part of the 13 week police training course.
The recruits are also learning about traffic stops, handcuffing, use of force and community policing.
