The Bentonville School District’s newest storage facility is costing the organization more than a quarter-of-a-million dollars than expected.

The decade-long project, which ultimately added 40,000 square feet in warehouse space for the district, encountered many unexpected issues.

Renovation costs were 17 percent over budget due to electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning issues.

Electrical alone cost $100,000 more than expected due to safety concerns with roof units on the building.

Original estimates budgeted the entire project at $4.3 million, but ended up totaling more than $4.5 million.

Officials say the newly renovated building should accommodate the district’s storage needs for the next 25 years.
