Buffalo River Crews Preparing for Anticipated Flooding

The Buffalo National River is prepping for excess rainfall and flooding.

Park officials will close Tyler Bend and Buffalo Point campgrounds starting on Friday in anticipation of the predicted flooding over the weekend. Officials said crews will be pulling electrical breaker boxes, vending machines and other utilities.

Barricades at or near river access points will be placed in areas that are prone to flash flooding. Officials are asking park visitors to respect the barricades.

All floating between Kyles Landing and Erbie has been closed. Crews continued to search for a missing person whose canoe capsized on the river.

Officials said the river will become unsafe for floating with the predicted storm. Any visitors that may have questions can call the Buffalo Point Visitor Contact Station at 870-449-4310.
