LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KARK, KFTA) — On Capitol View this week, reporters investigate concerns over deaths in prison systems across the country, including Arkansas.

Those deaths may be tied to illicit drug use. Authorities said drug use includes those known generically as synthetic marijuana, or K2.

This week a legislative committee met to discuss drugs and prisons.

A UAMS researcher said many life-threatening problems can result from synthetic marijuana use.

“You see tachycardia, you see neurological damage, stroke, seizure and convulsion, there are psychotic episodes that are brought on by these drugs that last weeks to months and as we’ve seen recently there are deaths,” said Dr. Bill Fantegrossi, K2 researcher for UAMS.

You can catch Capitol View Sunday mornings on our sister station KNWA.
