Christmas Comes Early for Military Family

Fox 24

A Northwest Arkansas native is set to return home Saturday night from military duty in South Korea. This will be the first Christmas he’s been able to spend with his 7-month-old daughter.

“Estella you have no idea what’s about to happen to you,” said Carol Shadrick

With gifts already under the tree, Christmas seems to have arrived early for the Shadrick family.

“Colton to be back home to spend time with her is just unbelievable,” Shadrick said.

Colton Shadrick has been in South Korea as a military police member for the army during the last year.
Missing memories of his 7-month-old daughter Estella shared with his wife Alyson.

“Its been rough a lot of the time, I had a baby and so I had to play the role of single parent while he was gone. He hasn’t seen her since she was a teeny tiny baby,” Alyson Shadrick said.

The wait will soon be over as Shadrick’s wife and mother prepare his welcome home party. Shadrick will be arriving home Saturday night ending his duty overseas.

“We have gone so long without him here and now he gets to come home right before the holidays so I’m really excited,” Alyson Shadrick said.

“We’re just going to rambunctious at the airport tonight,” Carol Shadrick said.

The Shadrick family anxiously spent the night making signs for their returning soldier.

“369 days is long enough,” Alyson Shadrick said,

” Alyson has been a trooper herself, we are very proud of her,” Carol Shadrick said.

For baby Estella, the greatest gift for Christmas may not be under the tree but united in her dad’s arms.

“It’s going to be a very special Christmas,” Alyson Shadrick said,

The Family all headed to XNA where Colton’s landed around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Shadrick will now be home with his family while continuing to be in the Army Reserves.
