City Officials: Weekend Officer Involved Shooting Began as a Sting Operation

FOX24
Cited in the letter to the Quorum Court were also new details surrounding the officer involved shooting near a Rogers Walmart over the weekend.

The writers of the letter state Saturday morning’s shooting all began as a sting operation. The document states a deputy asked Rogers Police officers to “stay out of the area” and that less than ten minutes later, they were notified that shots were fired in the parking lot and citizens were in extreme danger.

Cave Springs Police Chief Joe Powell tells me the officer involved is a Cave Springs Police Officer and also a commissioned deputy for Benton County. At the time of the shooting, Chief Powell says he was on the clock as a deputy.

Chief Powell tells me he is okay and on paid leave during the investigation, but will still not release his name.
