A local student is changing the lives of kids around the world, one backpack at a time.

Elizabeth Ofodile founded The Education for Africa Project.

The third grader at the New School in Fayetteville is currently gathering school supplies for Nigerian children.

The project started a few years ago when Ofodile visited family in Nigeria and realized children there were less fortunate.

Ofodile said this project is very important to her.

“It makes me feel so good inside that when people say it feels better to give than to receive they really mean it,” Ofodile said. “I felt so happy when I gave it to them. Their smile one their faces just really touched my heart.”

Ofodile delivered backpacks to kids at five different Nigerian schools last year.

If you’d like to help this year, she’s collecting backpacks and school supplies until Thursday at the New School in Fayetteville.
