Arkansans are able to purchase medical marijuana after the first open dispensary opened in the natural state.
Doctors Orders RX opened its doors Saturday, May 11 and Green Springs Medical will open on Monday, May 13. Both dispensaries are in Hot Springs.
Hot Springs dispensaries may be paving the way for medical marijuana, but the spokesperson for the medical marijuana commission said northwest Arkansas could have an opening as soon as this June.
There are four potential dispensaries here in our area all waiting for approval; the Releaf Center, Arkansas Medicinal Source Patient Center, Acanza Health Group, and Valentine Holdings.
A spokesperson for the Medical Marijuana Commission, Scott Hardin said the patient list for marijuana is growing with almost 12,000 people. He predicted it will continue to grow now that it will be more readily available.
Hardin said these dispensaries will help the economy by creating jobs, but it will also help the patients that really need it.
“If you look at the 200 plus people that were in line today in Hot Springs, it’s just one by one people expressing thanks and gratitude,” Hardin said.
Hardin said the Releaf Center in Bentonville would like to open in June and should be requesting an inspection in the near future. It can open immediately after an Alcohol Beverage Control agent approves it.
