After historic flooding in the River Valley, one group offered flood recovery training Monday.
The event was held at the Saint Paul Methodist Church in Fort Smith.
The four-hour class focused on flood recovery, muck out procedures, along with health and safety.
Denni Palmer is the Northwest District disaster coordinator and has been training people for the past 10 years.
She said that helping those after a disaster goes beyond physical help.
“Everytime we do a training, I just get reminded of the impact of that,” Palmer said. “If this was my house that somebody was walking into, it’s always a reminder to me to wanna go in and be that caring presence. It’s not just about helping after a disaster with the physical labor that needs to be there but also about connecting with folks.”
Palmer said there will be more training sessions throughout the year.
About 120 people were at the Monday training.
