Gentry Takes on Teen Dangers

GENTRY, Ark. (KFTA) — The City of Gentry held an exhibit to put a spotlight on the dangers and harmful activities many teens are exposed to on a daily basis.

The exhibit, called “Hidden in Plain Sight,” was set up at the public library and highlights the struggles high school-aged kids can sometimes go through, such as drinking, drug usage and suicide.

Exhibit creator Karen Cox said teens who consistently learn about the risks of drugs from their parents are less likely to use drugs.

“Throughout the exhibit parents can see where things are hidden,” Cox said. “Sometimes there is self-harm which is a very big problem and they don’t think about the self-harm; children hide that from their parents.”

Drug overdoses killed almost 72,000 Americans last year alone.
