Get to Know Your Candidates: Charlie Turner

FOX24

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Fox 24) — Election day is quickly approaching, and there’s a lot of names you may be seeing and hearing around town. As Your Local Election Headquarters, we want to help you get to know your candidates.

In one of the more closely watched contests, there are five candidates vying to become the next Bentonville Mayor.

Over the next few days, our team will profile each one in our newscasts. Fox 24’s Alex Caprariello introduces you to one of your candidates, Charlie Turner.

“I will do the best I can and I will surround myself with people who know how to do it,” Turner said.

Local Bentonville barber, Charlie Turner, will be the first to admit he’s no politician. But 55 years behind the chair has given him a chance to listen to the issues of the people.

“I know what the problems are. I hear the problems everyday, but I just don’t have all of the answers,” Turner said.

One of the biggest issues Turner says he’s focused on is the trail system in Bentonville. He wants to add call boxes to make it safer at all times.

“Whether it’s a young lady or an old man, it doesn’t make a difference. I think they need the call boxes,” Turner said.

Turner said he believes in honesty and loyalty in local government. If he’s elected, he said he wants to keep his door open to all of his constituents.

“I want to be open to everybody. If they want to talk to me, I want to listen to them. If they are on welfare and want to talk to me, fine. If you are a billionaire, fine,” Turner said.

Although he says he’s the underdog in this race, Turner feels confident over half a century in Bentonville makes him the man for the job.

“Anybody who has been here for more than 20 years knows who I am,” Turner said. “I’ve seen it grow and I know that it needs a lot of changes to help it keep growing.”

Turner says he remembers the moment when the city of Bentonville put in the very first stoplight. He says the city has come a long way, but traffic continues to be an issue he wants to improve, just like all those years ago.
