(FOX24 via KARK) — Gov. Asa Hutchinson reaffirmed his support for Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump on MSNBC’s Meet the Press Daily on Thursday.
He said that although he supports Trump, the two have disagreed on some policies and style. Hutchinson said he has confidence in the Republican team that Trump will put together in November.
The Arkansas governor likened the Republican primary to a football team, saying he chose a different quarterback (referring to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, whom he endorsed during the Arkansas primary election).
“Arkansas and the Republican primary system chose Donald Trump as our quarterback, and I’m not gonna stop blocking just because I would have made a different choice,” he said.
Hutchinson was among a group of governors that met with Trump on Tuesday. He told Chuck Todd, the host of Meet the Press Daily, that it was a “good” meeting.
In closing the interview, Todd asked the governor if he would be open to serve in a Trump administration or even as a running mate. Hutchinson replied, “When you got the best job in America as governor of Arkansas, you don’t look beyond that.”
When pressed further on the issue, Hutchinson said, “We don’t want to be speculative. I’m very very happy with what I’m doing.”
