WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ark. (KFTA) — Washington County law enforcement will be vigilantly looking for drunk drivers on and around the Fourth of July.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be waging a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from Friday, June 29 to Thursday, July 25. Sheriff Tim Helder announced the campaign Tuesday.
“You’ll see increased enforcement on the roads with zero tolerance for those who drive impaired,” said Kelly Cantrell, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. “Decreasing the number of impaired drivers and making the roads safer for our community is a continuing goal of the Sheriff’s Office.”
As July 4 festivities wrap up in the evening or late at night, more cars will be on the roads, the news release states.
“Nighttime is especially dangerous: the rate of alcohol impairment among drivers involved in fatal crashes during the 2016 July Fourth holiday period was more than three times higher at night than it was during the day,” Cantrell said.
