SEBASTIAN COUNTY, Ark. (KFTA) — Sebastian County officials held a law enforcement appreciation event at the Five West Stabilization Unit in Fort Smith.
The event recognized officers for their service and key role in diverting the mentally ill from jail to short term treatment at the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
“Rather than taking those individuals to jail who might have behavioral health issues, they can transport them here to us, and then it helps their safety, it helps public safety and you know the individuals then are treated in a more appropriate manner,” said Rusti Holwick, CEO of Five West.
Some law enforcement at today’s event include those from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Smith Police Department.
