The Pea Ridge National Military Park showcased the “I’ll Be Home for Christmas-A Military Christmas Collection” Saturday.
During the holidays many military families are without their loved ones who are fighting overseas. But throughout history thousands of Christmas letters and post cards have been sent to wish their families a merry Christmas.
Historian Bob Underdown has collected these items for almost 20 years with some cards dating back to the American Civil War.
He said while this collection is his passion he wants to share it with others to remind them of the sacrifice soldiers and their families make during the holidays.
“They’re away from home, maybe for the first time in their life and I think that’s important to remember. There’s a lot of people who don’t get to be with their families during the holidays, and some of the things here remind you of that,” said Historian Bob Underdown.
If you missed it Saturday, Underdown said he will showcase his collection again on December 15 in Prairie Grove.
