Local Veterans Take Advantage of Free Fishing Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KFTA) – Hook, line and sinker – that’s all you need to have a good time this weekend in the Natural State.

It’s free fishing week across the all of Arkansas which means you don’t need a permit or fishing license for the next two days if you’re wanting to cast a line out.

One local group called “Heroes on the Water” took advantage of the free event to get some veterans out on Lake Fayetteville for some fun in the sun, and they didn’t do too bad either.

“Today they caught some bream, they caught some crappie and I heard that one bass was caught. We look at it as if we catch a fish it’s a bonus but we are just out here for some R&R,” said Craig Shelton with Heroes on the Water.

Daily fishing fees are waived on these two days but boating permits are still required at Lake Fayetteville and Lake Sequoyah.
