ATKINS, Ark. (KARK) — Call it the least lucky lotto ticket of all time.

Russellville detectives hit the jackpot last week after the small, seemingly insignificant piece of evidence led them straight to two suspects in a string of car thefts.

Detectives say they were on the hunt for whoever broke in and stole more then a dozen cars from the Orr Auto Mall in Russellville. Inside one of the cars taken, they found left behind lottery tickets.

With help from the Lottery Commission, we’re told detectives were able to trace the serial numbers on the cards back to Casey’s General Store in Atkins.

“That was a little unusual, yes,” said Kevin Ennis, store manager.

The gas station keep records of when every ticket is sold, so based on the serial numbers, Ennis and one of his cashiers was able to go find the exact timecode on their surveillance system. Ennis says the detective took one look, and….jackpot.

“Saw the suspect he was looking for, and I guess it was confirmation for him,” Ennis said.

By the way, Ennis says one of those tickets would have won the suspects money.

Meanwhile, 24 year old Trenton Mosley and 42 year old Eugene Maddox were arrested shortly thereafter. They’re facing a slew of charges including burglary and felony theft.

Mosley is currently being held on a $200,000 bond. Maddox is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Russellville Police are still investigating and are not releasing any more information at this time because they believe there are other suspects still at large, and they have not yet recovered all of the stolen cars.
