Major Fayetteville road project almost complete

A long-awaited road project in south Fayetteville is almost done, creating relief from bumper to bumper traffic soon.

The Rupple Road project was scheduled to open in May, but weather pushed back construction.

City Engineer Chris Brown said it should be complete in the middle of August.

Road crews will start to shift traffic into new lanes in about six to eight weeks.

Brown said Rupple is one of the most trafficked roads connecting north to south Fayetteville, and the new improvements will create a safer, smoother drive.

“We’ll have a four-way intersection there. We’ll have a dedicated left-turn lane which we don’t have now,” Brown said. “We do have a lot of left turns there. People are getting off the highway coming down Mt. Comfort and turning left on Rupple.”

Brown said the city and the Arkansas Department of Transportation are looking at more ways to improve traffic around the area in the next four to five years.
