Although the historic Arkansas River flooding has receeded, non-profits continue to lend a helping hand, even despite the Father’s Day holiday.
Eight Days of Hope, a faith-based non-profit based in Mississippi, has been in Moffett, Oklahoma, cleaning and rebuilding the area for free.
There are three churches in Moffett, and all of them were affected by the flood.
Homes near and around the churches were completely destroyed as well as the water rose to eight feet.
Eight Days of Hope’s Executive Director Chandler Gurley and her father decided to celebrate Father’s Day out at the volunteer site.
“It’s fun to be able to serve alongside him, this day is really for him in my eyes, but he;s chose to kinda forsake that and say no today is about those who are hurting and really need hope,” Gurley said.
Eight Days of Hope is paired with 10 different denominations.
They plan to stay in Moffett for at least to the 26th of June.
