The city of Gravette now has a new police chief.

Mayor Kurt Maddox said a search committee made up of community members and city officials offered Chuck Skaggs the position after interviewing six other candidates.

Skaggs began serving as interim chief after former chief Andrew Bower was fired in July.  Mayor Maddox declined to discuss the reason for the firing.

Skaggs has worked for the Gravette Police Department and Gravette Fire Department in various positions since 1995.
