Newly Elected Justices of the Peace Tour Juvenile Detention Center

Several new Justices of the Peace took a tour of the juvenile detention center in Fayetteville Friday morning, January 4.  The group also toured the Washington County Jail.

“The quorum court has a very important job when it comes to county business and that they control the budgets. They have to have a clear understanding of why we request the things we do and what our specific needs are,” said Washington County Sheriff Tim Helder.

“The biggest takeaway for me is, I really felt we needed to know the facilities, know the people, know what it is we’re legislating about before we go in and legislate,” said Justice of the Peace for Ward 11, Suki Highers.

A vote for a $30 million jail expansion was tabled at a Quorum Court meeting in December.
