A Northwest Arkansas man was sentenced to 35 years after killing his mother almost two years ago.
Patrick Malone, 22, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Christel Malone.
Benton County Circuit Court Judge Robin Green asked Malone why he killed his mother; in response, he said, “It’s complicated, your honor.”
Malone was originally charged with capital murder.
Last year he was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation, and in March he was declared mentally fit to stand trial.
Tuesday, May 28, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison and was given credit for the more than 660 days he spent in county jail.
