Olympic road racers have been preparing for cycling season.

For the last 10 days, the Hagens Berman Axeon Cycling Team has held its annual training camp right here in Fayetteville.

The cycling community in Northwest is what brought them to the area.

Axel Mereckx, the owner and general manager of the cycling team, said it’s a great opportunity to train in a new environment and meet great people.

“The biking has been wonderful,” Mereckx said. “I mean we explored  some of the beautiful rides some of the locals told us to explore, and we’ve had a very successful training camp so far. We’re glad to be here.”

Next week, the team will head to Columbia for their first race of the season, then they will head to California.

They will race between the United States and Europe for the remainder of the season.
