Ozark Society Kicks Off New Year With Hike

A local conservation education organization took advantage of the new year in the most natural way.

Members of the Ozark Society’s Little Sugar Chapter kicked off 2019 with a First Day Hike on Tuesday, starting at the Compton Gardens in Bentonville, as a way to celebrate the New Year with outdoor exploration. It was no fluke that the gardens were chosen as the starting point.

“Dr. Compton was the person who established the Ozark Society and he started the Ozark Society to save the Buffalo River,” Ozark Society Sugar Creek Chapter Executive Committee Member Lowell Collins explained.

The hike stretched about three miles and led into the Crystal Bridges outdoor area. The group hosts hikes throughout the year.
