FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFTA) — Police have released new details in the search for a suspect who shot a Fort Smith man on Friday afternoon.
The man, who was not identified by Fort Smith police, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from Mercy Hospital.
Sgt. Wendall Sampson with the Fort Smith Police Department said at approximately 4:30 p.m., a shooting was reported at 5206 South 28th St.
Shortly afterwards, a “black male with a goatee approximately 5’6″ in an orange fleece and blue jeans” was seen running away from the residence, according to police.
The victim told police his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend came by and a small argument began as he was banned from the property. After the man left, a black man knocked on the door and an argument ensued between he and the victim.
According to the victim’s statement, it was at this time that the suspect produced a firearm and the victim moved toward him. One round was fired through the victim’s left upper leg.
Witnesses confirmed the victim’s story.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
