Another year, another big Groundhog Day celebration at Bonnie Grimes Elementary in Rogers.

The school held its 36th Annual Phil the Groundhog presentation Friday.

Third graders organized the event to celebrate Phil and his upcoming winter prediction — will it last another six weeks or will spring cut winter short.

Ahead of the event, students learned about Groundhog Day and planned activities surrounding the tradition.

“It’s important for our school to celebrate. It’s important to be unique. We’re just proud that Phil… even though he’s down in the ground, hunkered down… his traditions need to be celebrated,” said Liz Matheson, Bonnie Grimes assistant principal.

Chief Meteorologist Dan Skoff played a role in the groundhog presentation, playing Tornado Skoffinator, who helped Phil get ready for his winter prediction.
