The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred last night.
According to a press release, a property owner in the 5500 block of Echo Road called to report he believed a prowler might be on his property in his barn. Deputies were immediately dispatched.
The property owner called a nearby family member to come to help him at the barn and assist him. The family member arrived and began to search around the barn.
While looking around the barn, he was startled by movement in between some pieces of equipment. He could tell it was a person.
Unsure of the intentions of the person in the barn, the family member shot one around. The subject in the barn was hit.
The subject was held at gunpoint by the family member until the arrival of deputies. EMS was notified and the person was taken to Baptist Health in Fort Smith.
The subject is still alive and may be facing surgery sometime today. The subject is listed in critical but stable condition.
Deputies and investigators worked through the night at the scene of the shooting and interviewed involved parties.
No charges have been filed and or arrests made.
No names of involved parties will be released at this time since the investigation is ongoing.
