The Springdale Police department held a special ceremony Wednesday in honor of National Law Enforcement Memorial Week.
Officers shot off a 21-gun salute in honor of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Police also provided family members of officers who have died with roses to memorialize their lives. Sheriff Tim Helder spoke about how thankful he is for community support.
“Our community supports law enforcement,” he said. “This is not somewhere in a big city where there have been all these problems and a lot of anti-sentiment for law enforcement. NWA loves their emergency services and are very supportive of the job that we do.”
Two Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies have been shot in the past two years – both survived.
