Students in Springdale Work with Surgical Robot

The future of medicine made a stop at the Tyson School of Innovation Tuesday.

Students got the chance to work with a surgical robot called da Vinci. The da Vinci surgical system allows surgeons to operate the device to make smaller incisions on patients for a less invasive form of surgery. The machine is already in use here in Northwest Arkansas as well as in hospitals around the country.

“It’s 3-D vision,” explained Intuitive Surgical Clinical Sales Representative Larry Blake. “It mimics the hand-controlled movements precisely and it allows for the surgeon, and today the students, to see what a minimally invasive robotic system feels like.”

Northwest Health Systems helped coordinate the demonstration and has two da Vinci robotic systems in their Springdale facilities.
