Sulphur Springs mayor says don’t use water at city park

Fox 24

Sulphur Springs Mayor Shane Weber urges people to avoid water at the city park.

The city is getting ready to fix a sewer main that crosses paths with the water way.

In 2017, floods wiped out a temporary main.

FEMA gave the city funds for a permanent replacement, but no company stepped up to accept the city’s bid request.

It left the city to constantly repair the temporary system.

Recent flooding has once again ruined the main, so now the city is draining the lake to speed up the process.

Mayor Weber said it should only take about a week, depending on weather.

“So we taped off the water area, and to speed up the process to dry it, we’re going to drain it,” Weber said. “Hopefully within a week, we’ll have it back up and running. It depends on Mother Nature — if it’s wet in there we cant just get in there. “

The mayor said once the temporary system is fixed, the city will put out another bid for the permanent structure.
