One man was killed, four troopers were injured and a tactical vest saved a fifth troopers life during a standoff on Friday morning, according to Capt. Paul Timmons with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

At 6:05 a.m. law enforcement responded to a fire on Dallas Street in Talihina, Ok.

Capt. Timmons said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tactical team was asked to assist in a “ high-risk warrant service” by the local sheriff’s office and the police department.

The warrant was issued because the District Task Force 16 believed a man was housing narcotics, marijuana and other illegal drugs.

When the troops arrived at the scene and entered the building they immediately received gunshots, according to Capt. Timmons.

Capt. Timmons said the troopers then fired back, and the man shooting at them was killed.

Four troopers sustained non-threatening injuries and Capt. Timmons said a fifth trooper was shot at but was not hurt because he had his tactical vest on.

At this time, law enforcement has not released the name of the man who was killed, but Capt. Timmons said he had a violent criminal history and had made threats to law enforcement in the past about not going back to prison.

Law enforcement officials said they do not know what started the fire but believe the building contained explosive booby traps, which could have been the cause.
