Taxpayers Receive Help Amid IRS Filing Changes

According to the IRS, after the longest government shutdown in history, it is experiencing a major backlog.

On top of the shutdown, the IRS is dealing with changes to The Tax Cuts And Jobs Act made by President Trump in 2017.

According to a report that was released on February 12, by the IRS, this is the biggest tax haul in 30 years.

Report statistics showed refunds were decreasing by an average of eight percent.

With so many changes and uncertainty, taxpayers are reporting this is one of the hardest and scariest years to file.

The United Way Of Northwest Arkansas is offering a free tax assistance program known as VITA.

With nine locations around the area, Jackson Braswell with the group said locals can sleep easy during tax season.

“Whether you go into a VITA site and meet with an IRS certified volunteer or if you file online, you’re in good hands. It’s 100% safe and they’re going to work to make sure you can get the most possible refund back,” Braswell said.

All VITA tax preparation locations are open until April 11 (see locations below).
