A mom dressed up like a man to attend her son’s “donuts with dad” event at school. The pictures of her in a plaid shirt and mustache have gone viral on social media. Yevette Vasquez is a single mom who decided at the last minute to dress up so her son wouldn’t miss out on all the fun. She said she got a lot of support from most of the dads and from people online. She has even heard from single parents from around the world who shared their stories.
Some good news for the giant panda. An international conservation group, taking them off the endangered species list, saying China’s efforts to bring it back from the brink of extinction are working. The animal is now listed as vulnerable, but the group warns that climate change is a major threat to the panda’s bamboo habitat. Experts predict climate change will eliminate more than 35% of the panda’s bamboo habitat over the next 80 years.
Some of music’s top names gathered in Baton Rouge Monday night for a benefit concert to help Louisiana flood victims. The Louisiana rising show benefited the American Red Cross’s Louisiana flood relief fund. Last month’s floods left at least 13 people dead, damaged more than 60,000 homes and left thousands living in shelters. The Red Cross says the damage is the worst to hit the U.S. since super storm Sandy back in 2012. Musicians and Louisiana natives Harry Connick Junior and Randy Jackson hosted the event, which featured performances by such artists as Aaron Neville, Hunter Hayes and Better Than Ezra.
British Airways is struggling to fix a problem with its check in system. It’s causing long lines and delays at several airports. It’s unclear how many flights have been affected. Passengers say the airline told them the system failure had been going on for hours, and was worldwide. However, the airline says it’s checking passengers “as normal” at Heathrow and Gatwick airports in London.
