The University of Arkansas Global Campus and College of Education and Health Professions are partnering to offer a summer literacy camp for Northwest Arkansas children.
The literacy camp will be held at Washington Elementary from 9 a.m. to noon starting July 25 – August 5.
The camp will be offered to children who have completed kindergarten or first through fifth grades and have a teacher recommendation can participate.
“Summer reading camps have the potential to stop summer loss, which may improve students’ reading skills, narrow the achievement gap in reading and increase students’ desire to read,” Camp Coordinator and Professor of Childhood Education Linda Eilers said.
At the camp, licensed teachers or graduate students enrolled in literacy and dyslexia assessment courses will screen participants, develop individual intervention plans on a one on one basis and give recommendations for classroom teachers and parents.
The camp cost is $99. Children of University of Arkansas faculty, staff, students and Alumni Association members can receive a 10 percent discount on the cost. Scholarships are also available.
Participants must register for the camp by May 30.
