A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial came to Northwest Arkansas Tuesday.
“The Wall That Heals” traveled from Jane, Mo., to Crystal Bridges in Bentonville with an escort of emergency vehicles, motorcycles and sponsor trucks.
After arriving at Crystal Bridges, the wall was welcomed to Northwest Arkansas with a special ceremony.
The replica wall honors the lives of more than 3 million Americans who served in the Vietnam War.
Built in the 80’s, the wall is one of the most visited memorials in the nation’s capital, with more than 5 million visitors each year.
A mobile education center arrived with the replica.
“We provide that education because that’s what we want to also help the people understand,” said Vic Muschler, site manager for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. “Not only will we give school tours, but we’ll give those tours to other individuals so that we all understand the sacrifices that have been made.”
The wall will open to the public this Thursday, with a wreath ceremony beginning at 10 a.m.
