Walmart is committing $3 million in an effort to close the gender gap in tech jobs across the country.
The money is being donated to Girls Who Code, the largest donation the organization has ever received.
The funds will go to create a first-ever summer immersion program in Northwest Arkansas and computer science programming for women in college.
“As we have already heard, females are a minority in this field. As an educator I feel that it is important, and it is my responsibility to encourage females to go into this field,” said Josefina Perez, computer science teacher for Springdale High School.
The program also provides computer science programming for girls in rural areas where fewer girls have access to computer science education, and the support necessary to make sure they succeed in the field.
Application for the program closes March 15. Click here to apply.
